We've come full circle.
So this is why they keep raising prices, huh? To pay for this idiotic idea?
That's a real Blockbuster of an idea, surely this will go well.
You can shop there but you’re not allowed to share any of what you paid for.
Or take it with you on vacation.
Is this the kind of crap they're raising prices to pay for?

What a dumb idea
What fresh out of business school moron thought this would be profitable? And what exec is brain damaged enough that they approved it?
Netflix exec ripping a fat line of coke
Oh fuck yea yes yes yes I love this idea let’s do it
Wait wait - I have an idea - wait, hear me out.
A store … where people could go … and they could scan a QR code for the TV show or movie they want to watch … then they can go home and watch it on their TV. And when they're done watching it, they can go back to the store to "return" it.
Make sure to charge them extra if they don't rewind the movie!
I don't know, movie theaters existed for years on $27 cups of Coca-Cola.

I'm not clicking on a Bloomberg link, can someone give me a QRD on these? TIA
Netflix to Open Stores Where Fans Can Play, Shop and Eat in 2025
- Its first permanent retail sites will be named ‘Netflix House’
- Initial locations in US will be followed by global expansion
Netflix, Inc. plans to open new destinations where fans can immerse themselves in the worlds of their favorite TV shows, shop for clothing, eat themed food and maybe even try a Squid Game obstacle course.
Dubbed Netflix House, the venues will feature a mix of retail, dining and live experiences, according to Josh Simon, the company’s vice president of consumer products. The streaming TV pioneer plans to open the first two in the US in 2025 and then expand the concept around the world.
That's the entire article. Barely two paragraphs.
Those are going to fail so hard.
Like, brutally fail.
Zero chance of success.
Amazingly the idea is stupider than I imagined
They lost a shit-ton of the content that made them a popular platform over the last 10y, then they alienated their customers when they pivoted on plan sharing, then they cranked up prices repeatedly. But surely physical stores where they can sell merchandise will turn things around right? Right??
I'm curious to see just how much money they're going to burn trying to make this a thing.
Food from unscripted shows. What does that even mean? They serve the disasters from Nailed It?
Voyager for Lemmy does this too.
Idk it's paywalled so I guess I'm not reading it.
archive.ph
is pretty good about grabbing paywalled content FYI. I usually shovel links like this through them.
So…a mall with TVs?
Netflix: You want shitty and we give it to you!
That's cool as shit
Ya, I'm disappointed too. I was hoping it'd be as cool as a leather jacket.

It's cool as ice. I can't wait to go.
Bye!
I find shit tends to be lukewarm and it stinks. Much like this idea.
