Robert Tracy’s appointment as St. Louis’ police chief came with a sweetener: In addition to a $175,000 annual salary from the city, a nonprofit organization made up of local business leaders pays him $100,000 a year more.
The arrangement raised some questions at the time about whether the St. Louis Police Foundation’s money would influence Tracy’s approach to policing in a city with one of the nation’s highest rates of violent crime.

If they worked there at the same time, they definitely would have known each other; any bouncer/security would know any detail cops that regularly moonlighted there, because they’re doing the same job, and need to know who each other are. It’s like thinking that the person who busses tables wouldn’t know the waiters.
Even if Chauvin hadn’t worked there regularly, they would have known each other enough to say hello.
Are there no laws about public officials accepting gifts from the community there? Or, you know, bribery? I’ve had public service jobs a lot less important than that and I’d have had a big headache accepting a $25 gift card from a community member let alone an additional yearly salary.
