I remember someone once writing "I could be rich if I invented a way to stab someone in the face through the Internet!" or something along those words.

This constant harassment should be illegal. They should not be able to prompt you every single time you use a service. There needs to be a "NO" option. Not "no thank you", not "maybe later", "NO!".

I agree … but if you are standing in their store and they blast you with their advertising over and over again … they more or less can do whatever they want.

You have to step out of their space.

Use Firefox and stay away from Chrome.

Chrome is owned by Google … YouTube is owned by Google … so going onto their website using their web browser is like walking into their store using their limo. Since you are on their property and in their vehicle … they have all the ability to push whatever they want onto to you. You have no choice. You can't walk into a Gap store and ask not see any Gap advertisements.

If you can visit their store using a different store front and a different vehicle … you at least have some options and ability to turn off features that you don't want to see. At least you have a choice.

I'm on Linux with Firefox with uBlock Origin and I never see ads on Youtube

Unfortunately a lot of these services are becoming more akin to a utility than a clothing store though. You need them in some capacity to function in a modern life, and there are no alternatives, or every alternative engages in the same harassment.

Don't forget to block the invisible element that covers the whole screen. They add it after a few videos to try and stop video playback but any half tech savvy person would notice it.

It's easy to spot. Prevents you from clicking and in the element picker, covers up the whole website.

It will still prevent you from scrolling. To shut THAT down you need to go fullscreen and back out. Pressing F twice is a fast way to do it.

Overall these are only temporary solutions. Keeping your adblock up to date (uBlock origin gets updated daily to combat YouTube's shitty scripts) is the only foolproof way.

Haha so original. I've never seen a "Shitting on YouTube Premium" post ever. I wish I could look at a different version of this or, "Fuck ads on YouTube", every day for months. That's what's going to put Lemmy head and shoulders above reddit.

Consider this. They're used to a better product with less ads.

YouTube used to be a higher quality platform with more customisation options (did you know back in the day you could design your own Tumblr esque blog page as your channel page?) And a lot of things were added that cut costs alongside poor moderation and the black hole that is YouTube kids eating up content. Not to mention that nothing is done about content stealing content farms.

yet all we got in exchange was more ads.

It's actually funny how some people aren't annoyed by ads polluting their Internet experience.
