The headline makes it sound like he physically assaulted her because they need to clickbait. The article makes it clear that is not what took place.
Former President Donald Trump attacked Judge Arthur Engoron's clerk in a now-deleted social media post while in the courtroom with her on Tuesday.
Politico reporter Kyle Cheney wrote, "Trump, on Truth Social, is attacking Judge Engoron's *clerk,—who is literally in the courtroom with him—while calling her 'Chuck Schumer's girlfriend' and posting a link to her Instagram account. I suspect this will be an exhibit in some gag order arguments."
Question since I'm genuinely lost when it comes to this - does forcing a gag order by these actions benefit Trump in any way? Does it ensure no one is able to speak about the case, or is it just limited to him?
The threat wasn't explicit, but it was certainly implicit. That's why he posted her personal social media info. He is fully aware he has an army of followers that will take that and run with it. I don't think that he should be able to get away with that so easily.
If I had thousands of followers and I posted your social media info while insulting you, wouldn't you consider that a threat? I don't think a gag order, which was very narrow, is much of a punishment.
Whether or not it rises to the level of "inciting imminent lawless action" is a different topic, but it's not like he was merely insulting someone to their face - he was pointing tens of millions of his psycho followers at her.
Why wasn't he immediately thrown in jail for that?! Fucking rich people.

This is gonna be like Capone: All these crimes and the thing that gets Trump behind bars is violating a gag order.
Because you know he can't abide by it.
If there's any such thing as Incitement Tourette's, he's got it.

I think any benefit to trump would be in the form of martyrdom
IANAL - in both senses - but I don't see how a gag order on other people would pass constitutional muster, especially with this Supreme Court.
It’s limited to him. It would be in incredibly broad and against the 1st amendment to say other people couldn’t discuss it.
Should still be in contempt of court either way.
You may be right.
Ok? And? Why wasn't he thrown in jail for that? I read the article.
Because that’s not technically illegal until the gag order, which went into effect after the post was made.
It's not illegal to threaten someone?
He wasn't threatening. He was insulting. The word "attack" is misleading in this context.

Which is why he now has a gag order. The act of posting someone’s ig isn’t illegal, but now it is with the gag order.

He was also inciting his followers.

Do you expect that the people in the court room to be monitoring Trump's social media accounts?
I expect the judge to do something about it once he found out more than a narrow gag order, but apparently that's asking too much.
"Smokey, this is not 'Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Why does the defendent get to be on his phone during his own trial?
You're asking the wrong person about that.
There’s no rule against it
Us poors can't bring cell phones into the courthouse.
Err, what courthouse are you talking about? Never seen an outright ban just gotta silence/turn it off.
Every courthouse I've been to in my area will not allow cell phones inside. Must be a state-based or county-based thing.
Fucking seriously. This man is bad enough without clickbait bullshit.
I saw "Trump" and "attacked" and immediately knew he was spittin words lol
For real! Putting it on social media WHILE IN COURT, should be the same as if he stood up and said it in front of the judge.
