Could be very wrong but I read this story as Criminology PHD student probably did shady shit throughout his life, went to school to try and figure out how to get away with it all, thought he could cover his tracks due to his PHD, got caught, probably death penalty. I wonder if he had other motive but this feels like super premeditated if he went through undergrad and postgrad work to pull this off.
