Nadia Mohamed has been elected the mayor of St. Louis Park, making her the city’s first Black mayor in 170 years, Minnesota’s first Somali American mayor and the second known Somali mayor in U.S. history.
Mohamed secured 58% of the vote against Dale A. Anderson, a retired banker.
Get it, girl
Insta-crush.
Feels a little specific to get too pumped about just the record. First person with dual citizenship from the 68th most populous country in the world, among cities in the 22nd most populous state.
Second Somali mayor in US history and first black mayor in this city in 170 years sound like bigger achievements.
Do you mean there was a black mayor 170 years ago, or that there has never been a black mayor in their 170 year history?
The city is 170 years old. She is their first Black mayor
That did seem oddly phrased.
I'm sure the republican minority will take it in stride and not be super weird about it.
Can't you hear the crackling of a thousand American Dreams ablaze?
Let's hope that it will bring prosperity to St.Louis Park
