Hurricane Otis strengthened on Wednesday to a Category 5 storm as it made landfall in Mexico.

In just 12 hours, Otis’ strength more than doubled from 70 mph (113 kph) winds to 160 mph (257 kph)

Cat 1 starts at 74mph and cat 5 at 157mph. I've never heard of this fast of an intensification in my 36 years

  Hyper-intensification seems to be the new normal.
