Rep. Rob Menendez says he’s “had it” with the partisanship of Republicans on the Homeland Security Committee.

A Democratic lawmaker slammed his Republican colleagues over their fealty to Donald Trump on Tuesday night during a marathon 15-hour session on impeachment charges against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over border security issues.

Rep. Rob Menendez (D-N.J.) said the House Homeland Security Committee has held 17 hearings on the border, but zero full committee hearings on other issues within its jurisdiction such as emergency preparedness, cyber threats, infrastructure protection and more.

“We have not lived up to our oversight obligation here on this committee because you all are obsessed with the border,” he said. “Because you bend the knee to the ‘Orange Jesus’ as you refer to him across the aisle.”

He’s called for his dad to resign from the Senate, so there’s that at least.

Doesn’t make anything he’s saying less right.

      • It’s almost as if political dynasties/neoptism/cronyism shouldn’t be a thing. Fuck Trump. And fuck Menendez. And Kennedy. Bush, Clinton, Cheney, Paul, Ashcroft, and probably dozens of others that aren’t coming immediately to mind.

Form the minute lil Robert declared he was running, the local media simply treated him as the heir to his dad’s old seat. Because it was true. He cruised on connections, many of them because his daddy is a crook. I’m hoping Andy Kim can primary senior if he wriggles free again, but Murphy’s wife is also running and would you look at that, now we’re right back at unqualified people pretending they can govern just because of who they’re related to.

Maybe one day junior will prove that he’s not just riding coattails as a golden boy. But it’s going to take more than an outburst to do it.

I thought this was his dad until I saw your comment. Bob Menendez should resign, and Rob Menendez is right about this. Both things can be true.

I mean, that describes like three quarters of Congress, no?
