I found that Flameshot does not automatically select an annotation tool after snipping - which turned me off it.

Unless there is a setting I missed that enabled that. I went with Ksnip as a result.

ShareX is my favourite, but that UI doesn’t scale.

Would love to hear more about your setup. This is something I wanted to explore at some point.

If you’re using something like graphene OS, use gboard and deny it network permissions.

Or use another app like tracker control to deny it internet access.

The self hosted solution is free if you are setting it up on your own device. I never looked in to hosting on fly.io myself.

It won’t be as easy to set up as Keep (no email invites, you’ll need to copy long and obscure URI codes between devices) but once set up, it’s smooth.

You’re posting in the open-source community so I won’t suggest Google keep (even though the wife and I use it for our shopping list - adding by voice using the Nest Hub in the kitchen is super handy)… But I will suggest a mixed oss/non-oss solution.

Obsidian, plus a self hosted Obsidian livesync. It does real-time writes to the hosted couchdb, and of set up correctly these changes can propogate live.

Thanks for the Fedora nod. I’m looking in to Bazzite. For Intel transcoding on the server I had to install the non-free firmware, and will probably have to do the same.

I was hoping to use Chimera, bit with it only supporting AMD GPU’s (I’m running an Intel n100) I had to keep looking. Bazzite looks interesting.

That sounds like the server side, but what about the client side?

I’m happy for them. Immich, along with Nextcloud, was the driving force behind my getting in to self hosting - getting away from the ridiculous and increasing subscription prices associated with keeping family photos and documents.

It has come an incredibly long way in the time I’ve been using it. I’ve kicked them a donation or two, a first for me with OSS, because it continued to provide so much value for me.

I had read earlier that Alex was hoping to transition to working on this full time and I am happy he has been able to see that realized in - what appears to be - a positive manner.

Unfortunately my launcher is one piece of closed source software that I just can’t break away from. I’ve tried plenty open source alternatives and always switched back.

Mp3tag and hours of fixing metadata used to be me, and then I just kind of… Ran out of time for that.

You are the first person I’ve encountered to say they are impressed with the gestured typing. All the other comments I’ve encountered, myself included, all seem to dislike it. It is the main thing that prevents me from switching from an offline Gboard - I am spending far too much time correcting inputs.

What about it impresses you?
