And the more the US government is made obvious to be a joke, the more people might finally get the fucking clue that institutions are meaningless when they don’t actually enforce the rules or provide meaningful support for what the working class actually needs, and they might eventually decide to do something about it.

Additionally, on an interpersonal level, you need to find communities IRL if you don’t have them, and be defiant together. Don’t let these evil fucks normalize anymore bigotry or conspiracies than they already have. Even if social norms would dictate otherwise, call that shit out when it happens.

Voters that are preoccupied with brown people coming into the country will vote overwhelmingly for Repugs every single time. Democrats will not be able to win over those people racists by trying to out-righting the Republicans.

The problem isn’t the democracy bit. It’s the enabling racism and genocide, being spineless, and blind trust in institutions and civility bit that could cost them the election.

Best we can do is laundering the far-right narrative that there is a crisis at the border and advocating for the far-right border bill that Republicans want.

FYI: the people in here recommending the open source competitors for Yubico aren’t mentioning one thing: YubiKeys, being proprietary, support a proprietary protocol called Yubico OTP in addition to the FIDO authentication protocol that the open source competitors can do.

The reason this matters is that some applications, like the Linux Bitwarden desktop app (there are others, but this is one that I’ve had to deal with), don’t support FIDO authentication, but do support Yubico OTP. This means that, for those apps, the open source keys wouldn’t be a valid authentication method.

Granted, the number of applications like this are small, and probably grows smaller by the day, but it’s an important distinction to be aware of.

The Democrats laundered the reich-wing narrative that immigration is bad and that there’s a “border crisis” when they put forward the far-right border bill that Trump thankfully tanked (for his own selfish reasons, but still good that it didn’t pass).

Now, months later, after the anti-immigrant narrative has been laundered and normalized, we get to hear about how immigrants are “eating your pets” and how Venezuelan gangs “are taking over apartment complexes”.

The ratchet effect is real. We need to stop demonizing people that were born on the other side of a border and Democrats need to grow a fucking spine and push back on these racist lies instead of enabling them.
