  • Yeah, I guess. I can follow you on that walk, but I feel like that kind of a plot left-turn is better suited, or at least, more expected in the realm of anime or something similar. I think it threw a lot of people off given that it went to the wonderful scientific accuracy of recreating accurate physics of a black hole inside of a supercomputer to generate the CGI, and explains relativistic time dilation to normies, and then just Deus ex machinas the whole problem with the “Power of Love” right at the end without even hinting that it was coming.

  • I need to watch the new one a couple more times before I can solidify an opinion on it, but I celebrate all the rest of them on an equal footing. My basic thought, is that the original was amazing, but it was also meant to sell the movie as a new concept. The other two are meant to be watched at a different level, which a lot of moviegoers don’t want to, but could only be made because of the success of the first one. That includes the animatrix. There are just too many wide open questions that the first one brushes off as movie logic unless you watch the other two, like how could the Oracle be a good guy, or tell the future, when she’s obviously a computer program, and how is one guy with completely unexplained to superpowers supposed to bring down the whole system.

  • Second only to a death, divorce is the biggest possible deal for a family, and I’m tired of people pretending like it’s not. It’s valid in cases of abuse, or if the unhappiness is to a degree where it becomes emotionally damaging to the kids, but divorce should not even be put on the list of available options. Divorce is what you do when none of the available options end up working.

  • Do you have kids? I used to hate when people would ask me that question before I had kids, because it seems to imply that having them places your opinion on a higher tier. Now that I do, I try and avoid it as much as possible for that reason, but I do understand that parenting is one of the theaters where theory space, and optimal practice, can be very different. The fact is, they never have to know, at least until they’re old enough to understand. They don’t have to know that Dad is sad when he’s alone with Mom, because we still have fun and laugh as a family when they are present. The lesson that I’m teaching them by example, is that it is better to have one bedroom than two, then to have to decide whether they want to live with mom or dad most of the time, that even though Mom and Dad civilly argue sometimes, we can still be a family, and be happy most of the time, rather than give up on a promise made before they were born because of factors they can’t possibly understand yet.

  • Porn is the only reason I am still married. After our second kid, my wife’s already low sex drive dropped to asexual. She is a wonderful mother, but she is either willfully or ignorantly oblivious to any romantic advance. I get, on average, about one fully clothed, under-the-covers hand job every 6 months or so that’s so unenthusiastic that I am reminded why I stopped trying to get her to do it. I am sexually starving. The only thing I want in the world right now is to feel the warm touch of someone who actually wants to touch me again, but I’d rather die, lonely, but married to her than let my kids grow up in a broken home…

So ya, I jerk off to porn after she goes to bed.

  • The Army can’t press assault charges on her behalf. She’s elected not to, which in this unique situation, is probably reasonable if she wants to continue having a normal life after this. Being an institution, and not an individual, the only real recourse the Army have would be to pursue a federal charges relating to misuse of the land and photography and such, but not doing so is the whole point of my initial post. In addition, even if they did, it would be a challenging case to prove that he was using it for campaign purposes given that he did not give a campaign speech or anything quite so flagrant. I’m not saying that anybody except for that poor staffer is completely in the right here, but it is probably the best case scenario: Trump and his team did something aggressively anti-patriotic, it was widely reported, and he has no way to possibly play the victim here.

  • Navy vet here. If I can offer an alternative interpretation: I can assure you that the Army is not actually afraid of retaliation (source: they have cluster bombs), I think it is a strategic move on their part to keep him from playing the victim. Trump is putting a lot of work every single day into ensuring that he loses this election. This is widely regarded as “tight”, and “super cool”, but he is also really good at playing the victim. Even if the Army press charges, and even if they got a conviction before the election somehow, it wouldn’t really change anything. Public perception is doing all the work that needs to be done about this, but if he successfully phrases this as a political attack so close to the election, it could throw a wrench in the roller coaster which is currently about to start going downhill really fast for him. I agree with you that this is not the correct outcome for such behavior, but I think it’s the best course of action currently available to ensure that he loses fair and square, and has no legitimate recourse after the votes are counted. He’s definitely going to dispute the results, but we need to make sure that he has no shadow of an actual, real, foothold to build a case of unfairness around.
