  • I'm seeing a lot of judgement on pretending Santa exists vs being 100% truthful with your kids. I don't think either way is a bad way, but don't judge others if they choose to pretend Santa is real.

With that being said, I do agree that if you are going to go with the Santa story, when the kid asks if they are real you should be truthful.

I just went through this with my 9 year old. She just came up one day and asked me if Santa was real and I told her no. There were a lot of follow up questions and it made her realize the tooth fairy, Easter Bunny, etc were the same situation. She asked me why we pretended Santa was real and I explained for us it was nice to see the magic that they felt from a stranger being kind just for kindness sake.

For me personally, I think it's a good lesson for kids to begin logically questioning their world and what they've been told.

  • I work with a group based in India. They have a completely different culture around messaging. Things I would consider worthy of an email comes as a message from them (i.e. doesn't need immediate attention/ escalation).

They are also very formal when initiating new messages, almost like they're following the same social standards as if they met you in the hallway (e g. Hi, how are you? Btw, I have this thing I need to talk to you about.). Mind you, this is all the time after exchanging dozens of messages a day.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, just lends some credence to what Musk said.

  • One of the nails in the coffin for Digg was that users increasingly felt they didn’t have a voice on the site anymore because a few power users had games the system and taken control. The same thing has happened to Reddit, except now those users are able to hide behind bots and AI.

I didn’t realize how bad it had become until I came to the Fediverse and saw more fresh content than I had seen on Reddit in years. No more timed reposts of the same memes or top posts, more organic conversations in the comments, meme formats I hadn’t seen in years.
