i like my laptop cause i already have it, and have gotten to know it quite well over the past 16 years, but i wouldn’t recommend it. it would be nice to have more than 4gb of memory these days, cause i can’t have too many tabs open on firefox without it bogging down.

just a historical factoid that a lot of people don’t realize: the luddites weren’t anti technology without reason. they were apprehensive about new technology that threatened their livelihoods, technology that threatened them with starvation and destitution in the pursuit of profit. i think the comparison with opposition to AI is pretty apt, in many cases, honestly.

well yeah, but also, you don’t pour grease down the drain so you can use it later. any time i’m pan frying anything, the pan gets a bit of bacon grease. if i accumulate enough of it, i’ll use it for deep frying too. throwing it out, down the drain or in the trash just does not make sense to me.

my first os was windows 95, but my first linux distro must’ve been whatever version of ubuntu was current around 2007/2008.

trying to start any kind of art as an adult sucks because inevitably by that point, you’ve got a fair head start on your art appreciation skill, which makes you perceive your initial attempts at art creation as particularly heinous. if you start as a kid, you’re less capable of recognizing how bad you are, and you aren’t having to compare yourself against peers who’ve got twenty years of experience on you.

por que no los dos? i drop my phone on nearly a daily basis, because i am clumsy af, but the screen is more scratch and impact resistant than any screen protector i could purchase, and it’s still fine after a couple years of that abuse. it still has a headphone jack and removable sim/sd tray, and if it ever gets dirty i can wash it in the sink. i do wish it had a removable battery and a better camera, but nothing’s perfect i guess. there’s no reason sturdiness or waterproofness need to get in the way of any functionality.

the trick is though, they don’t market these sorts of phones to clumsy people, they more aim them at construction workers.

definitely the Tubbs Fire. You can see where my childhood home used to be in the wikipedia image! Fortunately, we didn’t live there at the time, we were a couple neighborhoods over, but it was still quite scary, the air was horrible, it lasted forever, and we had to evacuate for a while to my grandma’s house to the south. Fortunately the worst of the damage to our home was holes melted in the fake grass from raining embers, and a persistent smell of smoke, and nobody i knew got hurt.

someday, i want to live somewhere that doesn’t have to worry about ‘fire season’.
