Usb is a carrying digital signals for the most part while headphonea are analog. So you have 2 options:

1. Implement some janky non-standard analog audio in some usb alternate mode that will only work with some devices
2. Add a digital to analog converter in the plug itself, which is more complex and expensive

Both options prevent you from chanrging while using headphones unless you use a splitter or wireless charging which is not ideal

3.5 mm may not be the king, but it’s extremly simple and fairly robust and has little to no disatvantages except for wireless headphones sales ofc. You don’t have to charge these heqdphones, you don’t have to worry about losing one of them.

Wireless headphonwa have their uses, I doubt they benefit the majority of people tho.

When you put out photos of yourself on the internet you should expect anyone to find them and do whatever they want to them. If you aren’t expecting that, then you aren’t educated enough on how internet works and that’s what we should be working on. Social media is really bad for privacy and many people are not aware of it.

Now if someone took a picture of you and then edited it without your consent, that is a different action and it’s a lot more serious offense.

Either way, deepfakes are just an evolution of something that already existed before and isn’t going away anytime soon.

5th one just flushed the toilet

At first yeah, it would be fairly insignificant, but if you ever stood close to these things you know how huge they are… It’s not easy to move them around and I don’t think we’ve found much use for the materials they are made of to recycle them. Also we are supposed to reduce these mountains of waste no, use them as a justification to waste even more.

But regardless, I am sure one people will realise how much we already fucked the climate as more and more extreme weather events pop around, we’ll see more focus on renewables or at least carbon neutral sources. I think the most appealing source atm is nuclear which, although not renewable, it has a fairly small CO2 footprint, tiny size, huge and stable output and there are even reactors that can “burn” their waste to further increase their efficiency.

I wish it was 600 when it came out. In Europe it was 900€ and still is in many places, although it can be found around 800€.

As for features around the same price, for example Samsung s24 offers 7 years of software support compared to 4 at most I guess from Sony and 1 generation newer snapdragon.

But the s24 has several drawbacks for me: shitty bloated software likely with e-fuse blown if u try to root it, larger screen (6.2"), crappy underscreen fingerprint sensor(I love side-mounted capacitive), no jack, no sd.

I guess I will be stuck with the s10e for little while longer.

Kinda pricey when you look at what competition offers in that same range

Windmills are a whole lot better than burning coal, but aren’t perfect. Recyling the blades after their 20 year lifespan is a nightmare.

It was the last <6" flagship smartphone. Not sure what to replace my s10e with. The battery is failing and I didn’t get any security updates in a year. I could unlock the bootloader and put a custom rom on, but that blows the e-fuse in the SoC so bye-bye decent camera and possibly mobile banking too

They also fail the jerry rig durability test. They are very bulky too.

If you want some decent quality coffee fast, you can tryan automatic espresso machine. It’s not gonna be cheap, but it will surely deliver something vastly superior to any reheated coffee

Reheating coffee doesn’t make it bad, be it in the microwave, on the stove or hot plate. Not finishing your coffee and letting it get cold just to reheat it later definitely makes it worse.

This is not something subjective, oxidation is very real. If you don’t believe me, peel an apple and let it sit for the same amount of time as you let your coffee sit and then you will see the effects.

When you brew coffee you extract all these oils and goodies from the beans thst have been protected by the antioxidants and expose them to air. While they will not turn to vinegar, they do oxidize and therefore degrade quite rapidly.

I agree with the permanent work from home, all thst commute time you save and all the dead times you can use for something else useful. On the other hand my lazy ass only averages 3.5k steps daily… I also walk everywhere, stuff I need is just too close… I also do some mtb once or twice a week tho

-10c is really not that bad. With a few layers on it’s just fine. 35c+ on the other hand… Good luck with that, there is no amount of clothes you can remove to feel comfy in high temps

So, everyone using a smartphone in 2024? If it’s not China, it’s the US or other gov, or ISP or VPN provider and the list keeps growing. They are all tracking you and it’s foolish to believe otherwise. And even if you have a dumb phone that can also track you, on top of all the cameras in public areas or sattelite imagery.

You'd be surprised how many legitimate email are sent with failed SPF. Even Microsoft sometimes doesn't update their MX records and the SPF fails.
