I’ve seen similar on my desktop on proton when on wake it crashes the display manager and shows my locked desktop unlocked with all the running applications before it finishes crashing closing all my applications and then going back to login screen.

I know you already got this but here is it again in my own words: don’t watch the news, don’t read social media, make personal connections one on one with people and judge your life by your vision and lens. Most people are judging it through a distorted news or social media centric set of glasses and it sounds hopeless. But when you look at your own family and friends you might just realise they’re better than you think, you’re able to find time to play and connect, you can still work and live with comfort, and your kids can grow up strong and healthy.
Start discarding that which is not truely part of your life, ignore the billionaires, the enshitification and all other forms of uncontrollable and frankly, barely affects you. These societal issues are always painted with someone else’s view point.
When you find something that does directly, without someone else telling you it does, affect you, and you’re in the mentally healthy place to take on that challenge, that’s when you Ave. If you think about it like that, and others did the same, most of our societal problems would be tasked by those who are in positions to do so.
I say this as someone who’s currently on 24/7 standby watching someone kind of like you, but going through depression, going through hopelessness, and going through addiction recovery (with all the slip ups). And their life right now is made, but they’re so busy fixated on issues they can’t either control nor have affects on them. They’ve got a house, it’s part paid off, they’ve got a well paying job, the owners of that job respect and offering pay rises to them, they’ve got a partner, who’s struggling their best to help them. In isolation they’re in luxury. But they get self worked up about other people’s business and societal or global issues. For what good? Stay grounded and self aware. Be thankful to yourself for making it so far already, and see the upward trends over the entire life and not the tiny problems of today.
Hold them all to account, no single points of failure. Make them all responsible.
When talking about vscode especially, those users aren’t your mum and dad. They’re technology professionals or enthusiasts.
With respect to vendors (Microsoft) for too long have they lived off an expectation that its always a end user or publisher responsibility, not theirs when they’re offering a brokering (store or whatever) service. They’ve tried using words like ‘custodian’ when they took the service to further detract from responsibility and fault.
Vendors of routers and firewalls and other network connected IoT for the consumer space now are being legislatively enforced to start adhering to bare minimum responsible practices such as ‘push to change’ configuration updates and automated security firmware updates, of and the long awaited mandatory random password with reset on first configuration (no more admin/Admin).
Is clear this burden will cost those providers. Good. Just like we should take a stance against polluters freely polluting, so too should we make providers take responsibility for reasonable security defaults instead of making the world less secure.
That then makes it even more the users responsibility to be responsible for what they then do insecurely since security should be the default by design. Going outside of those bounds are at your own risk.
Right now it’s a wild West, and telling what is and isn’t secure would be a roll of the dice since it’s just users telling users that they think it’s fine. Are you supposed to just trust a publisher? But what if they act in bad faith? That problem needs solving. Once an app/plugin/device has millions of people using it, it’s reputation is publicly seen as ok even if completely undeserved.
Hmm rant over. I got a bit worked up.
You’re right. Both cloud services (like Microsoft 365 measured by licensing) and azure each individually are about double Windows. They together make over half of Microsoft’s earnings while Windows is like 16%. Then you’ve got games and linkedin and others filling up the smaller %.
Microsoft doesn’t need Windows, you can run your office 365 off Mac or Linux for all they care. Just host all your virtual workloads on azure regardless of OS if it’s not serverless, and they’re fine with taking that money.
This thread teaches me that generally, most Linux people are looking at windows. Meanwhile Microsoft only thinks Windows is 16% of its business.
Basically, it seems, most Linux users do not think hard about Microsoft.
My mate started terrarium building.
For very little cost, you can look for second hand fish tanks and go for walks to collect moss, rocks, twigs etc. Weirdly it built more meaning to the more ‘I need to move my body so I’ll go for a walk’.
Now he likes hiking, and collecting moss along the way.
The actual terrariums are gorgeous too.
Yeah, my mum isn’t going into the shell. She’s 65.
I don’t really like the idea of ‘beginner friendly’ like ‘you’ll get better and start doing it the real way’. It’s not some esport where it’s easy to play and hard to master, it’s a toolbox where it’s only job is to get out of the way of you accessing your tools.
Operating systems are middleware.
Yes, you’re right about voltage and amp combined, but the problem is modern phones and their charges don’t generally want to be doing high amps at 5v, they increase their voltage to 9v, 15v or, 20v. Which like you would point out, is not the right voltage.
Personally I just feed 5v in via a ubec like this: https://core-electronics.com.au/ubec-dc-dc-step-down-buck-converter-5v-at-3a-output.html since I usually have some kind of 12v battery powered thing going on with mine and lots of 12v ac-dc adapters for bench testing and charging. Lots of ways to power them but it’s definitely not just ‘grab your usb-c charger and it’ll be right’ which can be frustrating for people since it’s almost all other usb-c things will ‘just work’.
The active, in active noise cancelling means listening by using microphones then playing the exact inverse of the heard sound to cancel the noise, actively. Opposed to passive, which tries to restrict noise like ear protection by enclosing an ear and adding insulation against noise from getting in.
So no, not white noise, though that’ll sometimes be generated too. You’ll realise quickly most active noise cancelling headphones only listen on the microphones on specific frequencies which is why different settings can allow sound through.
Quoting of course from the great Dragoon Fenix.
I have a feeling it did because I remember watching early rtsp multicast streams of the anime initial D found through winamp in like 1999 at 240p. It’s so long ago that I’m not even sure that’s a correct memory.
After installing mint, and you find a problem, just live boot mint again.
You can do a lot in live boot including mount your permanent copy even the kernel. Whatever is missing you can download put onto the installed hdd or usb storage, and then install.
Ask me how I know. Lol.
Thieves and murderers the lot of em. Just like my great great granddad before he was shipped here.
Think of this:
You find a computer from 1990. You take a picture (image) of the 1KB memory chip which is on a RAM stick, there are 4 RAM sticks. You are using a DSLR camera. Your image in RAW comes out at 1GB. You project because there’s 8 chips per stick, and 4 sticks it’ll 32GB to image your 4KB of RAM.
You’ve described nothing about the ram. This measurement is meaningless other than telling you how detailed the imaging process is.
They took imaging scans, I just took a picture of a 1MB memory chip and omg my picture is 4GB in RAW. That RAM the chip was on could take dozens of GB!
Telegram isn’t encrypting chats (only secret chats).
As far as reproducible builds telegram has got instructions and caveats or excuses around builds for the same issues signal does: https://core.telegram.org/reproducible-builds#reproducible-builds-for-ios
Both easily make Android reproducible builds. This Twitter message is a rock being thrown in a glass house, knowing most people who consume Twitter like it’s a firehose, won’t swallow the nuance of the details.
I don’t even, not to complete lengths.
Reasonably sure they mean telegram. Only secret chats are encrypted. Telegrams chat otherwise is basically transport layer encryption.

Australian native bees can’t sting, do a great job of pollinating, and make a little honey on the side. They’re very curious from experience with a swarm making a home on my water meter box, but not very scary.
One rich company trying to claim money off the other rich companies using its software. The ROI on enforcing these will come from only those that really should have afforded to pay and if they can’t, shouldn’t have built on the framework. Let them duke it out. I have zero empathy for either side.
The hopeful other side is with a “budget” for the license, a company can consider using that to weigh up open source contributions and expertise. Allowing those projects to have experts who have income. Even if it’s only a few companies that then hire for that role of porting over, and contributing back to include needed features, more of that helps everyone.
The same happens in security, there used to be no budget for it, it was a cost centre. But then insurance providers wouldn’t provide cyber insurance without meeting minimum standards (after they lost billions) and now companies suddenly have a budget. Security is thriving.
When companies value something, because they need to weigh opportunity cost, they’ll find money.
