Outside is where the mosquitos live.
Hi! :)

All search engines suffer from enshittification because the web at large does. Switching search engines won’t help escape it, Google’s results are getting worse because the internet as a whole is. Bing’s and DuckDuckGo’s results are just as bad. And unless someone comes up with a reliable way of filtering AI generated SEO crap from searches, it’s only going to get worse.
If I’d believe for a second that he might actually end up homeless I’d say “and making anyone homeless for any reason is a bad thing”. But I don’t. And it’s not empathy for him anyway, I just care about the principle of not throwing people into the streets.
That’s highly individual. I prefer people speaking in vaguely normal tones instead of low key yelling, and whispers actually being, you know, whispers. I have always had exceptionally good hearing though.
My rule of thumb is if there’s no in-character reason to do something in a game, I won’t do it. I have played psychopathic characters who will murder everyone at the slightest provocation, but I’ll not reload after murdering while playing one of those. And on good-aligned or even just sane characters I won’t murder NPCs just for being slightly annoying.
The Houthi are the ruling regime in Yemen, not rebels. This is a way to make them sound illegitimate.
The legitimate government of Yemen still exists, is still recognised as the government of Yemen by the United Nations, and is still controlling significant amounts of territory roughly equivalent to former South Yemen.
They are trying impose sanctions against Israel
They are attacking random civilian ships that are not headed to or from Israel. That’s not “sanctioning Israel”, that’s declaring war on the entire world.
I don’t disagree on a moral level, but I don’t think that “risk going to jail” is particularly good advice. If there’s any social programmes or charities, see if you qualify before resorting to desperate measures.
It’s also not even how NATO works. Countries are recommended (not required, recommended) to spend 2% of GDP on their own defence forces.
I’m not. I’m calling out people who call me a bigot for not living up to their standards on ethical consumption. Personally I avoid Nestlé and their billion subsidiaries wherever humanly possible, but I am not calling everyone who doesn’t pro-slavery. That’s my issue, not the warranted labelling of Rowling as a bigoted piece of shit.
What a ridiculous take. First of, outside of certain parts of the internet most people aren’t even aware of the issues surrounding Rowling, secondly you can very much acknowledge that she’s a terrible excuse for a human being while still enjoying a game she had nothing to do with (yes, she gets royalties, but she has the kind of fuck you money that multiplies by merely existing anyway).
The problem with that is that providing a platform and a revenue stream is providing support. Whatever the intent is, that is the result. The issue isn’t what I see on the Steam store, it’s providing a platform at all.
And yes, obviously there’s the question of where to draw the line. But not drawing one at all means providing support for the Alex Joneses of the world. There’s no way around that. And I don’t think that that’s a worthwhile trade.
To the best of my knowledge Valve allows basically everything that’s not outright illegal. They aren’t nearly as much of a “good” corporation as they’re often framed as. They’ll happily provide a platform for and take their 30% from anyone, including racists, misogynists, homophobes, etc.
You don’t need food?
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Like, ages ago? Google has been called out on their shady shit tons of times, it just doesn’t have much of an effect because Chrome isn’t as objectively crap as IE was. It works and it’s familiar, for most people that’s all that really matters. They have “NotHiNg to HidE” after all.
If they distribute the drawing, yes. And the difference is that a drawing is immediately recognisable as a drawing, but an AI generated image or video isn’t necessarily easily recognisable as not being real, so the social consequences for the person depicted can be much worse.
Even if you don’t want to consider it CSAM, it is, at the very least, sexual harassment. The kids making and circulating these pictures and videos should be facing consequences. And the fear of consequences does offer some degree of protection at least.
Not necessarily the same people. And besides, just because you don’t like A doesn’t mean you have to like B, maybe you prefer C or D.
For the record - that’s generally also how it works in Europe. Or well, Germany at least. Also there are independent ATM companies (Euronet and the like) not affiliated with major banks who charge outrageous fees to everyone desperate enough to use one of their ATMs.
I was born in 92. My childhood (part of it, anyway) was in the 90s and I do remember the latter half of them fairly well. These things are never really clear cut, especially for people born around the “change” in generations.
