Anecdotally Fifa (EA FC or whatever they’re calling it now) would have to be up there. Hadn’t played it in years but gave it a go last season as it was free on Game Pass.

They’ve combined the addictiveness of card collecting with loot box mechanics, FOMO and moving the goalposts (pun intended) to get the best players. The gameplay also seemed pretty rigged to prevent grinding rewards out.

Then when the new game is out, rather than dishing out all the rewards to those still playing it instead becomes infeasible to unlock any more decent players so you’re pretty much stuck with what you have.

Even if you pay full price for the next game you’ll have to use low stat players as they only seem to start releasing decent ones half way through the season.

If they add another 170GW in 2025, the percentage could rise to approximately 6-7%.

They hope by 2026 solar will make up 8-9% of the total energy consumption.

If solar is the future then we are screwed because that isn’t fast enough growth… and that is without factoring in the rest of the world who will hit nowhere near those numbers.

Whilst it’s true solar is growing, it is not likely to be the silver bullet you make out.

Another way to look at the source you linked is that despite the ongoing climate catastrophe the US is still planning to add 4% more fossil fuel sources to their grid next year.

It also leaves out the fact that 84% of the current US power is generated by fossil fuels and that figure is not being reduced.

The source is also very US-centric. If we take the IEA’s projections, only 25% of the world’s new energy will be from renewable sources in 2024.

Then there’s the weird choice of counting battery storage as energy generation. At the end of 2022 half of the battery storage was being powered by fossil fuels so should probably be left out of any statistics.

We need people to understand the true scale of the problem rather than generating more hopium. The energy companies have teams of people for that.

I think it means the electric field created within Earth’s atmosphere that is responsible for lightning as opposed to the (electro)magnetic field which forms the magnetosphere around Earth and makes compasses work.

The scientific method itself considers any as yet unsubstantiated theory as hypothesis. Applying this to the idea of God would leave one agnostic on the issue.

A couple of prominent examples of religious dogmas disproved by scientific discoveries are the Copernican Revolution and evolution by means of natural selection.

So they’ve failed at pushing full return to office and now they’re commissioning unscientific studies to try to make hybrid seem necessary?

These results really can’t be applied to all jobs. Some jobs obviously require in-person but many white collar jobs can be done entirely remotely saving workers time, money and freeing up infrastructure for those that need/want to go in. Not to mention other benefits to mental health and reduction of emissions involved in commuting.

I have somewhat of a pet extension to projection theory… Many people who are anti-gay think that it is a choice as they themselves have made that choice. ie. They are repressed bisexual/gay.

Completely unsubstantiated with no evidence but I find it fun to think about as it would explain their complete misunderstanding of it not being a choice. “I made the tough choice and am living with it, why can’t they?!”

Completely agree, requirements are key and often badly defined due to the customers’ lack of knowledge of the intricacies of the system. You are correct to ask for clarity or it could come back to bite you later on.

I’ve just had a spec through from a BA which consists entirely of screenshots of an existing system with no technical definitition of any of the requested fields so relate to this right now.

Not substantially, it had a different title and was toned down.

The title of this post was “I hate programming, why did I choose this field”.

I responded suggesting maybe OP isn’t suited to SQL in particular. There are plenty of other languages to learn that they might pick up quicker if they are struggling with SELECTs.

It’s partially right but led OP down the wrong lines of thinking because it interpreted the prompt as a date field being missing rather than the field named date being missing.

Tbh I don’t blame it too much here as there is kind of a base level of understanding requred to use it successfully.
