I suppose “the media has catastrophically failed in it’s job to inform many voters” wasn’t as catchy.

“Sorry our nation elected a bunch of morons”.
The employer is within their rights to terminate so long as it’s not on the basis of a protected class (gender, religion, age etc.).
I don’t agree that stating an opinion should be grounds but I do not believe they violated anything.
Even worse, she’s recognized for excellent work performance so you’d think that matters more….but nope.
Legally I’m not sure - symbolically he could do a lot. Call out the ethical judgement of Thomas and Alito for one. Recommend recusal. Hell, suggest resignations - if he were a principled Chief Justice that is, but alas….
The Chief Justice calling on him to recuse would be one. Even better - advocating for a binding code of ethics.
At the very least, meeting with Congress.
He refuses to even do symbolic gestures.
If Roberts had any principles or just a spine he’d set an example, instead the SCOTUS legacy is beclowned daily and he does not care. What a failure of a once vaunted institution.
They know perfectly well but prefer the revenue to fulfilling their journalistic responsibility and acting ethically.
When news is a product to market and not a social responsibility this is the result. They’re selling a narrative and horse race delivers profits - also their delusion that kissing the ass of the guy that calls them the enemy might save them could be a factor.
Shameful how their response has been to cower and equivocate and not report objectively and clearly.
The anarchy symbol rebelliously displayed on a rear projection screen, the pride of the A/V department, in a ballroom of a Hamilton Suites lobby somewhere. My youth recoils in horror.
Well geez things are tight but I’m sure I can spare some EABOD for these poor, unfortunate souls.
Cannon has no ethics to grapple with, she’ll quite happily do whatever it is she believes protects Trump. As with Alito and Thomas she’s blatantly biased and doesn’t appear to care at all about her oath or duty.
They’re flaunting their disdain for the very system they purport to protect.
The problem is people on juries can (try) to disregard instructions. I served on one and was NOT the foreperson and yet was the only one to speak up when some insisted on raising hypothetical motives when the judge had specifically instructed us only to consider presented evidence.
“No, you cannot guess as to what occurred” I had to repeatedly say.
I worry that one or more jurors will rationalize instead of fulfill their sworn duty. I hope not but….
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What an amazing gesture and selfless decision by a family living my worst nightmare. That is achingly beautiful.
The race to the bottom getting pretty crowded.
Easier to slither in the muck when you lack a spine I suppose.
Wrong about another thing.
He may have been right to vote for impeachment but that aside…like Liz Cheney another GOP stooge.
Is spineless turd that much of a career path in the GOP? Cruz, McConnell, DeSantis, Christie, Romney (for a time) and more bending the knee. Pathetic.
I used to think that, it took talking to people that lost loved ones to suicide and learning more about it to feel far more empathy - imagine seeing the world without you, to picture your family happier with you gone. Utter despair where dying is the appealing option.
Yes, **if ** and that’s a massive if, this was a dramatic last act it may have been malicious or selfish….or an irrational, impulsive and ultimately tragic decision.
I feel sorry for everyone involved. Its horrible.
Quite literally only because they would appoint someone even worse.. The House is deeply flawed.
Unfortunately for him the case is actually not about paying hush money, it’s about lying about the payments in company documents and its direct impact on the election.
Sure you can give money to people, the lying about it on financial/campaign finance documents is what he’s being tried for.
Of course the media keeps calling it “hush money trial” which it is not.
Imagine any other defendant in a criminal proceeding suggesting to reduce security in order for their supporters to disrupt proceedings.
Jury tampering is illegal after all.
At least, for everyone else it is.
Well put - and I expect we’d agree that the worst are outlets like the NYT and WP that trip over themselves trying to appeal to a demographic that hates them by constantly pushing “both sides” or worse pretending it’s normal partisan dynamics and not an utterly corrupt SCOTUS and dysfunctional Congress let alone aspiring authoritarianism on one side. They focus on eyeballs and revenue, journalistic integrity be damned.
