I notice you’re not denying the super powered robot from the far future part…
Ha, I wish!
Edit: Wait… If we send a message to a court, we can make it happen!
Also, gotta ask, is your name from the old Marvel villain or?
? What in there got you so upset? The notion that playing sports could be fun? The horror of someone, ugh, criticizing communism?
I’m genuinely surprised and morbidly curious.
I’m beginning to think RawStory exaggerates their headlines for clicks. An organization has asked a court to arrest them, a FAR cry from facing immediate arrest.
It just breaks my heart a little.
Places like this could be so awesome and so conducive to good public discourse but instead we get, well, this.
So you support people detaining journalists against their will and forcing them to delete their notes.
No. Not at all.
But to pretend that they were threatening the reporter’s family is disingenuous and makes it look like the media is blatantly spinning a story. This story’s headline and others like it are part of why people don’t trust the media, which is a dangerous state of affairs.
I love that someone was so annoyed at either the idea that lemmy is addicted to outrage or making fun of downvotes that they downvoted your innocuous comment.
Some fragile folks out there I guess?
You aren’t saving yours for a cash prize at the end?
And judging from the downvotes, lemmy doesn’t like being being reminded of this fact.
Oh absolutely, he shouldn’t have been accosted etc. But I really hate this clickbait nonsense, it’s irresponsible and part of why things are as bad as they are. Most people will look at the headline and think these people really are targeting reporters’ children etc. It’s lazy, irresponsible and is helping make politics as bad as they are.
Preventing someone from leaving, especially a reporter, is not a good look but the gulf between that and “we’re coming for your kids” as implied by the article is huge.
Had the article headlined with reporter accosted, physically stopped etc, totally fine. But this clickbait crap is nonsense.
Did anyone read the article or are we just going off a fairly misleading headline?
From the headline, it seems like a mafia style threat. From the article though:
Davis tried to explain to the woman that he had to catch a flight to meet up with his family, to which she replied, “You should have thought about your kids before you did what you did.”
The threat here isn’t that someone is going to come after his family, it’s that he might miss his flight. Which is annoying but absolutely not the same as “we know where you live and are coming after your family.”
To paraphrase the Beatles “they get high with a little help from their friends”
You are not reading what’s being written.
And are one hundred percent taking the bait, like he expects you to. And to a casual American who remembers that 2016-2020 didn’t result in extermination camps, ended with a transfer of power to a different political party and no invading sovereign nations, well, your claim makes you seem like an unreliable source of information.
Again, I think trump is dangerous to American democracy but you are helping his cause.
I don’t think he’s a genius but knows one game very well, and it’s treating the Left/media the same way I treated my younger sister when I was an asshole; wind her up, watch her melt down, over-react and get in trouble.
And we take the bait EVERY. GODDAMN. TIME.
He’s not imitating Nazis by accident and he’s not doing it because he’s a Nazi. He’s doing it because it makes us make ourselves look like hysterical children.
Edit: It’s not 78D chess, it’s the easiest game to play. Couldn’t be much more simple as far as politics go.
That’s an… interesting opinion.
That’s why we have to vote in primaries for non-evil.
But we get outvoted, badly, by senior citizens so old time politics reigns supreme.
Oh no, I get that. I think he’s echoing that stuff intentionally but more to make us cry fascist etc. He loves our reaction to the dictator but only on day one schtick, his side sees it as a joke, we take it deadly serious and I worry median voters think “he was already president, we still have a democracy, these guys are over-reacting.”
We can be simultaneously right AND lose the persuasion game. I’d rather win the persuasion game.m as that matters more than being right.
I think about Jan 6, with horrifies Democratic leaning folks but to a large swathe of the public, it doesn’t seem to register as a concern compared to inflation etc.
"He knows what he is doing,” Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a professor of history who studies fascism and authoritarianism, said of Trump’s statement. “He chooses his words carefully.”
Yeah but not in the way this person thinks. I firmly believe a large chunk of trump’s success is his ability to bait the Left/media into frothing at the mouth and making us seem like we’re blowing things out of proportion.
It’s why he uses stuff like lying press, to a student of history, that’s a pretty clear Nazism. To a casual American, he’s just hating on the press. Similarly with this, to a casual American, he really means deporting illegal immigrants back to their home countries, whereas to this author, well, you read the article.
I think back to the debate and how well Harris baited trump, it was so nice to see it go the other way and it worked beautifully. Hopefully, we can be wiser than trump and avoid taking his latest and future bait attempts.
For others who have been less than impressed by the accuracy of rawStory’s headlines, looks like he legit said something like this. Admittedly, an off the cuff thing we’ll take too seriously but it did happen.
