Almost all of Syncs business model is ads. The free version has ads and almost everyone who pays for it is doing so to remove ads. Which is just rewarding the implementation of ads. I also disagree with the concept of profiting from free user content with ads like Reddit does. Which was Reddits primary goal of preventing third party apps. They wanted the ad revenue themselves instead of third parties getting the ad revenue.
The only way this can be acceptable is to not have a free ad version and only have a paid version. That way you are paying for software and not paying to remove ads or profiting from free user content.
I hope it will turn out fun and engaging. I have also ordered the book. 😀
Since the list is generated from the monthly reading post it isn’t surprisingly to me that it ended up being some of the most popular mainstream books. As time goes on and these books get picked over the months I believe the list will become more niche as I won’t allow a winner to make it back on the list.
Seconding Red Rising. I managed to finish the first book, but throughout nearly the entire book it felt like a fantasy rather than a science fiction. They are in a science fiction setting, but then intentionally remove all technology or futuristic elements for almost the entire story. From what I am told the rest of the books continue this similar theme somehow despite no longer being in the extremely specific situation of book 1.
I’ve been trying to convince some people to read some books by Greg Egan, but it has been difficult as most people are not into the idea of basically reading a math, computer science, physics and biology textbook that also happens to have characters and a story. Although the story that is there does a great job at threading the interesting ideas and concepts together. Even with a tiny bit less of a story and it would be dreadfully dull even to me.
Guys, it is a pun. 😅
There is something about that song that is peak comfyness, but also quite melancholy.
I’ve seen similar problems on actual escalators. It might not slice your fingers off, but if your arm was stretched out it would snap your arm off at least. But then again I have a phobia of elevators and escalators so it is particularly apparently to me. I blame that Resident Evil movie when the person got their head cut off trying to exit a stalled elevator.
I think they are wanting world building on a smaller scale. Although I don’t think world building is really about any particular size. If the entire setting took place on Earth or it spanned the entire universe, the amount of world building could be the same.
Yes it is. Loosely based on it at least.
I’m sure it will be like most of the movie industry these days that only know how to make super hero movies. It will have no depth, the dialogue will be shallow and the action will be 85% of the movie. But as awful as it will potentially be I am still a sucker for space battles and the like. I could probably watch a 2 hour film of just spaceships shooting eachother.
Thanks for joining us. Perhaps you will some day become a science fiction enthusiast. 🙂
I’m sure some of them will show up in future votes. Maybe some day we will get to everything. 🙂
Right, you would probably want to pick the one you are most interested in reading, but it doesn’t really matter if you pick your favorite that you have read and want others to read.
So many movies and shows have phones being transparent rectangles that look like a piece of glass. It’s impractical for so many reasons from privacy to even being able to hold the thing.
Honestly I don’t think cellphones will change that much going forward. They will get more powerful. Maybe they will continue to replace other computing devices for people such as laptops, desktops and gaming consoles, but the form factor is as practical as it gets.
Seems like this show is going to be rather divisive. I’ve barely seen any of these comics so I have no real attachment with it. I think as long as the show has some funny jokes then that is good enough to me.
Now you have to find every science fiction tv series, movie and book with any kind of machine intelligence and classify them.
I'm not trying to be rude here, but please read my post. Paying to remove ads is part of the ad business model. Anyone who pays to remove ads means the developer profited from ads.
