Thanks for the reminder to watch that series. I liked The Wire and We Own This City by David Simon so I’m assuming it is a more thoughtful show than the title and imagery suggests.

Maybe if the US Army had cooperated it wouldn’t have been so terrible! At least it provides a chance to see Phil Hartman.
And rarely you get to see gems like this from the movie Sgt. Bilko (1996):
Guess What Happened Next?

Just a heads up, this is another spam account pushing a garbage website. @xmod@leminal.space [<-now banned] & @xmod@lemm.ee are both newly created accounts linking only to this site.
The disclaimer on the website states [emphasis added]:

Why the sudden switch in address names? Why is the contact us page just a gmail account and no additional info or even a generic web form? Unlike the other sections, the “about” page isn’t in English at all.
the only way to download it is with a premium subscription
This doesn’t help you on a mobile device, but in case others weren’t aware of its existence, there’s a great open source tool for downloading from many/most websites: yt-dlp
Can’t speak for the veracity, but I’ve got two magnets with the following:
Average income = $1,601.00
Loaf of bread = $.08
Gallon of gas = $.10
Gallon of milk = $.45
New car = $625.00
New house = $5,972.00
Average income = $4,650.00
Loaf of bread = $.19
Gallon of gas = $.24
Gallon of milk = $1.01
New car = $2,155.00
New house = $11,975.00
I don’t know if the functionality exists yet for the mods/admins, but I think it’s pretty safe to assume any links pointing to that domain are coming from bots/spammers and the accounts should just be automatically banned. I first saw that site linked to about 2 days ago from variations on the username “johnson”, then from a (new) account named debbie, and today from kelvinwashington to worldnews and now here.
It’s all clickbait ad-laden garbage and it’s getting tiresome having to report each instance of it.
Surely you’ve seen the movie Airplane!
Nutritional information on cereals is often misleading because its based on unrealistic serving sizes
This is only tangentially relevant, but I am baffled at how this is allowed:
“100% Vitamin C per 8oz” – container only holds 6.75oz

I really should have mentioned that book is where I got that from, glad you were able to find it and for spreading awareness of it with your update.
Overall I enjoyed the book but it wasn’t what I was expecting going in based on that large block (mostly included on that blog link) about the slow boiling of fascism. Super depressing subject to be reading about not out of historical curiosity but increasing modern relevance :(
Well said.

What is your connection to creditnews.com?
It’s not web based but MKVToolNix GUI is pretty user friendly. I haven’t dug into it too deeply so I don’t know if it offers any automation tools to batch change files etc.
For the third day in a row:

It’s insane that “Brady lists” are considered the better remedy than just removing the offending officers from police work entirely (as well as charging them with some kind of perversion of duty).
Police officers who have been dishonest are sometimes referred to as “Brady cops”. Because of the Brady ruling, prosecutors are required to notify defendants and their attorneys whenever a law enforcement official involved in their case has a confirmed record of knowingly lying in an official capacity. This requirement has been understood by lawyers and jurists as requiring prosecutors to maintain lists, known as Brady lists, of police officers who are not credible witnesses and whose involvement in a case undermines a prosecution’s integrity.
We don’t just make lists of doctors that intentionally harm their patients, arsonist firefighters, chefs that poison etc. – they are barred from the profession once discovered. But cops (and priests) get to keep doing their thing and at most just get moved around.
I actually just finished it, wish there were more episodes. There was a lot more humor than I was expecting which really helped to offset the depressing aspects. Yeah, I really can’t imagine the government supporting the show aside from it portraying the US as an absolutely dominating force.
From a casting angle I think it’s kinda funny Jarhead had a Sarsgaard and Generation Kill had a Skarsgård. I also kept thinking the Rolling Stone writer (Lee Tergesen) looked like a relative of John Michael Higgins.
