Where did you hear about a reputation for durability? I’m familiar with the phrase “if you can’t afford two BMWs you can’t afford one” because of how hard it is to maintain them

Yes please, I use my quest 2 sparingly but would love a to hit it with custom firmware
I’m going to add my +1 for framework, I got the batch 5 original framework 13 with pop os on it and a windows 10 copy on a 250gb expansion card. Its been my main work and play laptop and I enen replaced the main chassis after it got smashed (long story) involving the sidewalk. Anyway I love what framework is doing and the decision has arguably already paid off within these last two years.
One of the best mind bending and heart wrenching video games I've played in a long time-Soma
Since they were purchased by epic games last year, roughly half of the original staff were laid off. Being bought by a corporate entity that values profitability over all esle is devastating to a website like this where music (and culture) have thrived
I suppose that depends on how urgently you need a new computer. I waited several weeks for one of the first releases, but have been using it the last two years and it has been well worth it. I accidentally smashed the case when it slipped out of my bag on concrete and was thankful I got a framework when I was just able to swap it with a new shell of their marketplace within a week
While I typically love a good sale, some labors of love like this or factorio involve so much quality they warrant paying to support these wonderful developers
Damn thats some sobering real talk. I don’t know how to drive manual, and frankly you make a strong point about how little point there would be to try
I also agree with this sentiment. I got a used t440p which I used for years in school before upgrading to the framework 13. I still love my old thinkpad, but its now my cheap in home media server. I would agree that old thinkpad are easy to find and a cheap (but still very useable and still to some extent repairable) option for work and school.
Seriously though, outside of work I kicked windows out of my house in 2020 and haven’t needed to go back. To be fair, my job doesn’t have any software requirements that would tether me to windows, but the gaming performance this year has been nearly flawless for the majority of my library, beyond anticheat some games actually run better on linux when you consider the reduced overhead in a lighter distro
Realistically given our trajectory it probably won’t get better again until long after we go extinct
Or the OG factorio
