Thank you for this. I know some people won’t appreciate it but not every community needs to be a full time political outlet.
I wish the United States would end it’s embargo with Cuba. The moves toward doing that were, IMHO, one of the bright spots of the Obama Administration.
As a libertarian myself Milei is an idiot for following the United States on this. True libertarians, not those Mises Caucus assholes, are generally not okay with these kinds of trade barriers.
2016 was an absolute shit show on Reddit. It was a dogfight between the Bernie Bros and the Trumpers until Bernie got knocked out of the primaries then knocked off Reddit by CTR. Then it was a dogfight between the ShillDawgs and the MAGAts with the t_d’ers eventually coming out on top because of their willingness to endlessly game the Reddit algorithm.
Where do you go for such discussions anyway?
The closest I’ve ever found was a heavily moderated sub on Reddit. I have no idea if its still any good or not because I haven’t been there in over a year.
Remember The Constitution says any rights not specifically granted to the Feds are the States.
The Supreme Court, to thunderous applause and cheering, killed that notion a LONG time ago. I wish California the best of luck in trying to resurrect the idea, I truly do, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
Even now most Progressives wouldn’t like the idea in practice. They’ve spent over a century fighting to create a Federal Government that is Large and In Charge.
Are we starting to understand yet why it was a horrible idea to give the Federal Government so much power over literally everything? It’s precisely why the framers of the Constitution tried so hard to limit what the Federal Government could control and its why the “States Rights” argument has always rung true.
I hope California is successful in their efforts to “Conservative Proof” their State. What they are attempting to do flies in the face of nearly 140 years of precedent but its EXACTLY how this damn country was intended to work.
It’s how we’ve reacted to their aggression so far.
The United States really does not want to get into a direct conflict with Russia. There’s no question that we’d win any kind of conventional conflict but the American people have no desire for another land war in Europe. We’ve been there and done that, twice, and while I think we would support our European cousins for a 3rd go around getting support for it would require that the Europeans commit themselves first.
On a tangent but speaking frankly Europe as a whole needs to plan for dwindling support from the United States. Regardless of who wins the 2024 US elections the voting demographics of the United States are changing fast. There are literally tens of millions of current and near future immigrants from all over the world who will never care about European security as much as the current voters do. Why would they? Why should they?
The average immigrant from Asia or Latin America will not have ancestral ties to Europe and as their impact on US politics grows it’s inevitable that US support for European shenanigans will dwindle. As voters they will push the US Government to care far more about what’s happening in India, Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, and various countries on the African continent.
This is going to happen even if the United States elects nothing but Progressive Politicians for the next 10 election cycles and Europe needs to prepare for it.
If they show up I hand out the candy and I’ve been doing it that way for decades. No telling some kid or teens situation in life and there’s no need in making it harder on them.
Its happening with increasing regularity even in the lower 48. Here’s one from Wyoming.
Which is pretty damn sad and proves what every US President since Clinton said regarding Europe’s staggeringly myopic lack of military funding.
Eh, nobody is going to get banned (at least not from my instance) as long as it stays inbounds.
There are well understood reasons why sexual abusers cluster into certain jobs, such as priests, but they are commonly found all over the world in every social, political, and economic class. The truth is that for for every Jerry Sandusky or Vince McMahon you hear about there’s 100, or even 1000, non-famous people that you don’t hear about.
What is the deal with all these damn rapists.
The sexual abuse of children is vastly more common than many people want to believe. It happens all over the world and it isn’t confined to any particular group or class.
Youre saying this lottery is fully non partisan and is open to all voters equally?
I’m not the person you were talking too but the answer to your question is no and that’s actually a GOOD thing because in order to get the “lottery ticket” you don’t have to vote. All you have to do is be a registered voter and sign the petition, that’s it and that’s all.
Elon himself “You can be from any or no political party and you don’t even have to vote in order to sign the petition.”
The scheme is still scummy and looks bad, I won’t argue that.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing that and Elon himself said it was fine.
“You can be from any or no political party and you don’t even have to vote in order to sign the petition.”
I figured that the Nebraska Supreme Court would rule like this and I’m glad to see that they did. I’m also happy that they extended the registration deadline to 10/25 so that people can still vote.
Good News…it’s done. They also extended the registration deadline to October 25th so that people impacted by the decision can still vote.
So some unknown person makes an unsubstantiated claim on Xitter. A recognized and mostly respected fact checker, Snopes, picks it up and contacts Geico where one of their agents denies it.
It’s abundantly clear the original claim was a fabrication, likely meant to feed the anti-elon crowd, so why are you assigning the same credibility to both sides? How does some unknown person on Xitter have anywhere close to the same credibility as both Snopes and Geico?
This is precisely what’s happening in the Conservative circles. They’re being presented with stories that are consistent with their world view so they don’t question it but they rarely see the retraction of a story that was dis-proven. If they do see the retraction they ignore or downplay it, often by requiring some higher standard of proof.
So much of the “news”, regardless of the topic, is a jenga tower of partial truths, misdirections, and outright lies.
They are far from the only one doing so.
