It’s similar in a lot of ways and this is still an echo chamber and the echo chamber we have here has a lot of overlap with reddit… but, while reddit mostly just leaned left… Lemmy… just leans anti-west. As mentioned, there’s a lot of overlap there, we’ve got a lot that is shared, but the parts where those two groups differ can cause some serious wtf moments if you’re used to the reddit community. As far as over policing, moderation logs are mostly public and there have been some controversies, but mostly people just stopped caring or left. If you stick around long enough, you will notice policies being applied unfairly if you’re on the ‘wrong’ side and it’s a lot easier to be in that category here.

All that to say, you’ll likely have some moments where you think… Maybe that old echo chamber wasn’t so bad.

Reddit still trends liberal overall, but anti-police sentiment has been on a decline for awhile. To me, it feels like the anti-establishment crowd basically died out completely over the pandemic. Reddit also tends to trend anti-hamas and pro-israel, the newer users don’t really understand that you can be against both so if it hurts the one they don’t like, it has to be good.

It’s a shame, I was really pulling for ‘RIBWORLD’

A refurbished tiny/mini/micro PC will use more power in terms of sheer numbers, but the cost is still so small on them that it’s really not worth considering for most.

I can back this up with experience.

I’m actively running two piholes for years now. About 2/3rds of my traffic does go to the primary and some seem to ‘lock on’ to using just one, but most devices will swap between the two at their leisure.

I don’t know what it is, but I haven’t laughed this hard in awhile.

If you combine Cthulhu with nearly anything, only Cthulhu remains, but if you combine Cthulhu with King Kong, you get Cthulhu Kong.

For me, I think the thing holding the Orville back the most is honestly Seth as the captain. I feel the same way about just McFarlane specifically. I know it’s his passion project and he wants to be the star trek captain, and I get that, right there with ya, but I feel like it’s his character kinda pulling the other characters in a specific way that kinda ruins the attempt at a serious vibe sometimes.

I don’t feel like we’re ever going to get past that until we can make the sign up process very nearly effortless. Reading about signing up for an account on the fediverse can be a lot of new info. Choosing an instance can feel like a lot when new to the fediverse and at the point that it becomes something difficult or confusing, a lot of people just lose interest.

I feel like for subs like those to pop up, the barrier to entry needs to drop really low. We lean even more technical than reddit did now, and to encourage subs like those, you kinda need a healthy population of non-technical people.

Right there with you on the UI. This would overlap in functionality with a lot of other items in my network, but I'm trying to find a reason to use it just so I can play with the UI.

I really think Gabe woke up one day and just decided he wanted to own the best of every vehicle.

I'd put good money on him having plans he's working on to some day own the fastest plane in the world.

There's always the main story of Diablo, but for a lot of us, the real game, and the reason we kept coming back was to get those cooler items. It's what turns Diablo from a play once experience to a put 100s of hours into it experience for me, and now it's turned into a pay $30 experience which feels really bad.

For me, I love the franchise and have really fond memories, but this one feels like a free to play game, but then they also want $70 for it. A game with a premium price point can be okay and a game with microtransactions can also be okay, but trying to be both is going to result in those of us who've been around awhile just taking a pass.
