I'm troubled by an explicitly antidemocratic speaker of the house, but at this point now that Republicans have embraced fascism rather than adopting popular platforms I can't say I'm surprised.

IIRC, 2 of the 9 Republican candidates for speaker did not endorse the big lie. Acknowledging reality made them unpopular.
