Some 2,000 people have perished after a powerful earthquake struck western Afghanistan, the Taliban said Sunday, as the nation reels from another natural disaster at a time of deep economic crisis.
to a certain extent it's a failure of government - yes, a natural disaster is what it is, but in some countries that suffer earthquakes very few deaths are attributed to earthquakes (Japan for example).
No no, not to a certain extent chile is a countrly like the ones you describe, and like, life continues as normal as soon as the quake stops usually with quakes in the lower 6 here.
obviously it will not be the same based on depth and kind of terrain, but still, people shouldn't die for a quake like this, like almost at all.
Chile's geography is far more mountainous and far fewer folks perish in earthquakes - their civil construction is lightyears ahead of Afghanistan & a large part of that is due to a relatively stable government (even when the dictator was ruling, that was still true).

all true, I'm bot even saying that this disaster was really that unavoidable, but human in nature and with people at fault.
agreed - which is why I stated that it was a failure of government
