Joe Biden’s re-election campaign is deploying California Gov. Gavin Newsom to the second Republican presidential debate next week in Simi Valley, Calif., Biden campaign advisers tell Axios.

Why it matters: It’s the latest example of Biden’s increasingly warm relationship with Newsom after earlier tensions between the two — and comes as the California governor continues to build his national profile.

@MicroWave I mean, Newsom is at a better Age and has better mental health, sooo… But I don't think this will help Biden much, I just think this will help Newsom for 2028.

The DNC also is hiring a plane to fly over Southern California reading "2024 GOP: A Race for the Extreme MAGA Base," according to a Biden adviser.

    Interesting. I wonder why?

I live in a blue state, MN. Our Governor accomplished a ton of great things in his previous term. He was reelected last fall. During that campaign, we had our state fair. His conservative challenger was running on the campaign "Walz Failed" and literally had a plane with that flying behind it on a banner all day, each day of the fair. They had people right inside each gate handing out bags that said it. Felt very ridiculous.
