Try uploading the image without text. If you use text it will just create a link. If you don’t enter text, it will display the picture, as long as it’s not too large of a file.
I can confirm it does not work with animated gifs or large files, and you also can’t link to an image – you must use the image upload button so it’s hosted on your instance. Here’s an example of the code.
