minority of people comment, most of users just upvote/downvote/ignore the post and move on. so its “weird” to be in comments, but its also just weird to expect people who have something to say not to be verly invested
Here on lemmy sure and that’s what’s killing it. Someone just shared a Reddit post recently about outfitting their home with Ethernet and there were 140 helpful comments. That type of contribution is what makes it good.

its the same across social media. reddit just has(or had) enough of a user base to enable such discussions consistently
