A federal appeals court's decision striking down a key tool used to enforce the Voting Rights Act could set up another clash over the landmark law before the Supreme Court.

Why it matters: The appeals panel in Arkansas ruled Monday that only the Justice Department — not individuals or groups such as the NAACP — should be allowed to file lawsuits accusing state election policies of violating the 1965 law's ban on racial discrimination.

lol not a chance. “Hey everyone, it doesn’t matter if you are discriminated against, because this one department — which we may or may not being doing everything in our power to neuter — has got your back if it can just get the backing and funding from… oh yea, us! Those other organizations don’t have your best interests at heart!”.

    Fucking crazy.

If Rs were serious about redistricting they’d leave it to an independent board with oversight and not the gerrymandering bullshit they keep proposing in every state they get the chance to.
