I'm trying to hire a freelancer for a project. I've signed up in fiverr, freelancer and upwork. They all ask for my ID and I just don't want to share it, what is the necessity for that? Really, I want to understand why they ask for this type of documentation, please let me know if you know the reason.

Anyways, I wanted to know if you knew any alternative that doesn't require KYC

Thanks in advance!

KYC is used to build trust, if you want totally anonymous work for hire, your going to have to escrow your money with a trusted third party, or pay up front.

These are some situations where KYC is totally reasonable so people don't get impersonated and scammed. Not to mention it's pretty hard to show off your work portfolio without it.

The necessity claim is to verify that you're not a scammer, and that the freelancer can get reparations if you scam them. Here's the thing, though. When the freelancer does get scammed, there's nothing that these platforms are willing to do to help. I've seen too many of my friends go through this BS. Because of this, I believe that they want your ID as a form of gathering data to build a profile on you and, then, selling that profile for profit.
